100 Year Old 3rd Graders

Hey yall!

 

When is your 100th day of school?

Ours was last Monday. It totally crept up on me!

We didn't get to celebrate in a big way, but we did do a couple fun things!

 

I made this shirt using my Cameo.

Have I told you how much I love that machine???

 

 

I also took pictures of all my kids and used an app called Oldify to age-progress them.

These pictures were HILARIOUS!!!

 

 

I printed them out and cut out their heads. Then they added them to a body cutout and decorated their 100-year-old selves. We have been working on opinion writing, so of course we had to integrate that!

They wrote about why 100 is the best age to be.

 

 

 

These are hanging in our hall and I giggle every time I pass them by :)

We Survived the 100th Day!

Hey yall!

 

Yesterday we had our 100th day of school. We had so much fun!

 

At our school, we are split up by 'families.' Each family has multiple grade levels and are all stationed on the same hallway. Our hallway has Pre-K, kindergarten, 2 first grades, second grade, third grade, and fourth grade. 

 

Each family has a name, motto, behavior plan, and activities that they do together. Our family name is Team LIFE (leaders inspiring future educators).

 

Our family decided to celebrate the 100th day together, so each grade level came up with an activity and the classes rotated to complete all 6 activities throughout the day.

 

 

1. 100th day snack: we had 10 different snack items and they counted out 10 of each one. They got to munch of their special snack throughout the rest of the day.

 

 

2. 100 fingerprints: they drew 10 circles on their paper and put 10 fingerprints in each circle. We had a cute paper for them to do this, but of course, our Riso was down so we had to make due.

 

 

3. If I had $100: each kiddo got $100 in play money and drew pictures/wrote about what they would do with it. I saw a lot of pictures of candy and ice cream...talk about a tummy ache!

 

 

4. During our lunch break, we learned about the number 100 with our favorite pals Annie and Moby!

 

5. 100 year old self-portraits: loved these! We let them have total control over this. Just handed over the materials and let them get creative!

 

 

6. 100 exercises: our health-nut 4th grade teacher wanted to do 100 exercises with the kiddos. Have you ever seen a 6 year old try to do a push-up or sit-up? Ha!!!

 

 

7. 100th day crowns: they made these cute crowns to wear throughout the day. It just happened that our class had this activity last, so they only got to wear them the last hour or so.

 

As we were making our crowns, we got word that our district was closing...for snow!!!

I know that so many of you are probably tired of hearing about snow, but this is a first for us! You don't get much snow here in East Georgia. In fact, it was a beautiful day here yesterday but is supposed to snow today. That's the South for ya, I guess!

 

 

So yes, I'm home today and tomorrow enjoying our "snow days"...even though I have yet to see any snow! Its supposed to be hitting us this afternoon, so we'll see.

 

Now I'm off to drink some hot cocoa and stare out the window :)

Hurray, Hurray...Its the 100th Day!

Hey yall! Happy Monday!

 

Today was our 100th day of school! It was a super fun, yet busy day.

 

The first thing my kiddos saw this morning was this...

 

 

Then I gave each of my littles a special 100th Day of School pencil!

 

 

We had asked our students to dress like they were 100 years old. Some of them were really tripping me out! My teamies and I dressed up, too :)

 

Is that not the best ever???

 

We had too much fun planned for our littles today, so we decided to rotate classes throughout the morning. They went to each of the four 1st grade classes and completed a different activity at each class.

 

In my class, we made a special 100th day snack to have later in the afternoon.

 

 

In another class, they made crowns and decorated them with 100 things.

 

 

In the third class, they completed the 100th Day Olympics and earned specials medals.

 

 

In the last class, they wrote what they would be like at 100 and made 100-year-olds.

 

"When I am 100, I will play dominoes and work. I will play cards."

"When I am 100, I will be in bed. I will be a Mrs. I will watch TV."

 

"When I am 100, I will have a good day."



"When I am 100, I'm going to have a broken leg and I'm going to have glasses."





 

After lunch, we tried to read 100 books while we ate our snack. I told each kiddo they would only need to read 6 books each to reach our goal. I have never seem them so motivated to read!!!

It was such a fun day and went by sooo fast because we were super busy. Love those kind of days :)

Monday Mumblings

Man, oh man, it's Monday. Another weekend come and gone, way too fast. I spent all day Saturday in my jammies watching movie after movie. Something about the rain puts me in a comatose state.

On Sunday, my hubby and I got the itch for some puppy love, so we headed out to the new local Humane Society. I was so surprised at how nice and clean it was! The only other shelter I had ever been to was pretty yucky, so it put a smile on my face to see such a nice facility. There were also alot of empty rooms, which means that lots of dogs had been adopted! We wandered around to pet and play with the pups, and dreamed about getting another dog (don't worry, Mom, not yet!). That won't happen until we finally buy a home with a big back yard. We already have our 2 pups at home, plus we will have my sister's lab for a couple of months in the Spring.

Speaking of, look what came in the mail the other day! My sister lives in Okinawa, Japan and is moving back next summer. She has a beautiful black lab named Holly. The airlines won't fly dogs in the summertime because of the heat, so I get to go to Japan and pick her up over Spring Break! You have no idea how excited I am! Only 2 more months!!!

So, remember how the other day I had forgotten to take pictures of our adorable 100 scrapbook 100 year olds? Well, I remembed today. Take a look!



This guy was actually from my neighbor's room, but I had to show you. Look at that face...ha! (Hi, Alexis!)



They all turned out so cute and different, and are lining the first grade hall as we speak :)

BTW, I am totally stoked to have 33 followers!!! I think that is pretty awesome. I am already planning my first giveaway, when I reach 100 followers. So get the word out! I am also working on my first unit for my TPT store. It's a Valentine's unit, so hopefully I will have that done by the end of the week.

Well, I'm off to get a haircut! Thinking I am going to chop it all off.....stay tuned for pics! Oh, and today is my sweet niece Alyssa's 7th birthday. Happy birthday, Alyssa!!! I love you!!!

Evidence of my exhaustion

Whew, we made it! 100 whole days of school, come and gone. Today was a whirlwind of activities and I felt every. single. minute. This girl is T-I-R-E-D. Okay, here we go....see if you can keep up (I know I hardly could!!!)

I work at a charter school, so we have a school uniform. But (Mrs. Lemacks, you said not to start a sentence with but!) once a month everyone gets a dress down day. Our dress down day for January just happened to be today, the 100th day. So, what would any good first grade teacher do? Have the kids dress up like they are 100 years old, of course! I am pretty sure I cackled for the first 20 minutes of school....everyone looked too cute! See for yourself.

We already had a reading test scheduled for the day (drat), so we had to do a little real work today. But that didn't last long :) I had told the students about our lofty goal to read 100 books and they were super excited! Every time they read a book, they filled out a little information sheet and put it in the jar. Then they made a tally on our chart.

They read throughout the day, and they did it....they read 103 books!

We made some cute little 100 day glasses, but I blanked on getting a picture of those. It was just a '100' that we cut out, decorated, and glued onto a popsicle stick. My littles kept telling me that they weren't actually glasses since they didn't go behind your ears. But they turned out cute anyways :) Honestly, I had gone to School Box to buy some, but they were sold out. So this morning when I was down at the copier and found one of our kindergarten teachers copying these, I was thrilled. She is a sweetie and even gave me the cardstock to print them on (Hi Emily!). 

My favorite part of the day was when we made our 100th day portraits. These were 100% inspired by Abby at The Inspired Apple (my blog idol!), and she was inspired by Jenn at Finally in First. But guess who forgot to take pictures again.

Ugh.

I promise I will take some on Monday and post them for you guys, because they are too cute not to share. My littles used this writing sheet to write about what they would do at 100. Click on the picture for a copy.

This writing prompt also came from Abby, although I recreated the document.

We read a few 100 day books, and then made our special snack. I previously had parents sign up to send in snacks for a chex mix, and I put these in bowls. There was 10 different snacks: Chex cereal, popcorn, Goldfish, M&Ms, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, raisins, marshmallows, pretzels, and teddy grahams. I put a couple of bowls on each group of desks and the students passed them around. They counted out 10 of each item, and then circled groups of tens on their snack sheet. In case that makes no sense, here are some pictures...



I found this idea on Pinterest, but the idea orginally came from Eberharts Explorers.

Then we practiced counting by 10s to see how many snack items we had. They were all super excited to have 100 snacks!!! I let them eat some, and then they took the rest home.

We also had a mystery reader come in, treasure box, student of the week announcement, and token exchange. Have I mentioned how utterly busy today was??? Whew....thank goodness it's the weekend!
