Throwback Thursday: Crayon Wreath Tutorial

Hey yall!

Two posts in two days.
That must be some kind of record

But I can't really take credit, because sweet Cara gave me an out.
She is hosting a weekly linky party called Throwback Thursday. Its all about sharing some of those oldie {but goodie} posts that some new faces might appreciate.

Sign me up!

Now, this was a post that I actually wrote for when I was guest blogging and I think I may have also added it to Endless Pinabilities, but don't think I ever actually posted it here. So this may be new to some of yall familiar faces as well!

I'm not sure about you guys, but I am officially on summer break...yahoo! My goal for this summer is to create some of those awesome crafts I've been 'pinning.' It's going to be a crafty kind of summer, for sure!

How many of you have pinned the crayon wreaths?
It was one of the first things I pinned, and I desperately wanted to make one! So....I did!

It was really easy. Here are the materials needed:
*Crayons (I used a 64 pack of Crayolas)
*Hot glue
*2 different sized embroidery hoops. I can't remember the exact sizes I bought, but it doesn't really matter. You just need 2 different sized hoops, where one can fit inside the other.
*Ribbon
*Scissors
*White acrylic paint
*Paintbrush
*Wood letters
*Assorted colors acrylic paint

Ready for these easy steps???

1. Put the smaller hoop inside the larger hoop. Keep the spacing the same all the way around the hoop. I painted both of my hoops white, but you could definitely keep it the natural wood color.
2. Arrange the crayons on the hoop...have fun with it! I put mine all with the label facing up and did all the colors, but you could totally just pick your favorite colors or do some type of pattern.

3. Start gluing! Glue one crayon at a time, so that you can keep your spacing somewhat even. Also, don't use too much glue, or it will just melt the wax.

4. Wrap the ribbon around a couple of crayons at the top and glue.

5. Paint the wooden letters however you like, and glue them on.

Simple, right? I made these as gifts for a couple of teachers, and I love the way they turned out!

I used letters to represent their last names, and I found those little wooden apple cutouts at Hobby Lobby. I just painted them, then wrote their names inside with a sharpie.

Hope you guys are inspired to go make your own! I probably spent less than $20 on the materials for all 3 wreaths, so it was pretty inexpensive to make!

Hey yall!!! I am so much better than my last post, because guess what???

My dad is a genius. A computer genius, to be exact!

He was able to recover my corrupted file!!! Soooo....look what's finally in my shops!

Just because I am sooo happy about my daddy being ah-mazing, I will offer it free to the first person that can guess what he did for a living (he's retired now). Leave me a comment below :)

Now, onto my Manic Monday freebie! It is a little companion to accompany this cute set.

I am also linking up with Tara for her Monday Made It Linky!

My niece and I got super crafty yesterday! I know that everyone has seen the melted crayon artwork around, so we thought we would give it a whirl!

We bought all our supplies:
1. white canvas (16 x 20 was 2 for $9.99 at Michaels)
2. Crayons (we used 2 boxes of 64)
3. Hot glue gun
4. Heat gun
5. Paint and paintbrushes

First, we tore all the paper off the crayons. Tip: soak the crayons in water first!

Then we broke them in half, and hot glued them to the canvas. We propped the canvas against the wall, and covered the floor with newspaper to prevent splatter.

We turned on the heat gun and the wax melted away! It was pretty instantaneous, which I was pleased about. I'm sure you could use a hairdryer as well, although it would take a lot longer!

Voila! All the crayons melted beautifully!

This was pretty cool already, but we took it one step further. We turned the canvas upside down, and painted some colorful flowers! I love how they turned out!

This is my niece with her master piece

And this is mine! I used all the colors that will be in my theme for next year.

Cute, right? This will look perfect in my future classroom!

One last thing before I go :) (cheers to you if you made it this far!)

Have you seen the new blog that Tanja has created?

It's called Endless Pinabilities, and it is awesome! It is allllll about being inspired by Pinterest. I am a contributor, so go check it out! You won't be sorry :)

Whew! Thanks for hanging in there...and don't forget to guess what my daddy did for a living!

Thank you, Mr. Postman

Hey yall! It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday...

Ha! I really felt like singing that ridiculous song all day. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, google Rebecca Black and prepare to be entertained.

I actually had no issues getting up this morning, because I realized that I get to wear jeans for the rest of the school year!!! That is 15 whole days of jeans-wearing bliss, my friends.

Yes, I would hate me, too :)

And then, I came home to find this!

My Pinterest-inspired bloggy exchange gift! I love them!!!

They are from Kerri at Ms. Kerri and her Krazy Kindergarten. Thank you soooo much, Kerri! These are beautiful and will look great on my desk :) And now....I have even more reasons to use those post-its! Go say hello to Kerri, and tell her how great a job she did on my gifts!

This is what I sent to my blogger Lyndsey from A Year of Many Firsts.

Look familiar??? Its the same scrapbook paper I used for this...

I about died when I read Lyndseys information sheet, because she said that she loved the pale yellow/gray combo, and that is exactly what I had put on mine!

I actually created her gift first, and then decided that I liked it so much I wanted to do one for me! Her gift also inspired me to make this for my home...

If you didn't get to participate in this fun bloggy exhange, hop over to Teacher Blogger Exchange and follow them...then you'll be ready for next time!
