Granny Swallowed Winter {and a freebie}

Hey yall! Happy Sunday!

I just wanted to real quick let you guys know about a new unit that I posted this morning. Its been done for a couple of days, but for some reason I just now got around to posting it.

This unit is full of literacy activities that accompany the book "There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow" by Lucille Colandro. Annnnnd I just realized I put "old" instead of "cold" on the cover file...crap. I'll fix that later.

This unit includes:

*Story Sequencing: story cards and cut & paste recording sheet
*ABC Order: word cards and recording sheet
*Rhyming Words Match: word cards and recording sheet
*Old Lady Word Search: using words from the story
*Writing Prompts: 4 different writing prompts to choose from
*Color by Vowel Sound: short/long vowel color sheet

Many of these activities can also be used with a pocket chart!

Here's a little freebie for ya :) Click on the picture to get your copy. If you grab it, please leave me some love!

Now I'm off to enjoy this beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Magical Product Swap

Hey yall! Happy Saturday!

Do you know what else today is?

Its Magical Product Swap day!

MrsStanfordsClass

I missed the boat last time, so I was sure to get in on the fun this go around! I had the opportunity to swap with Samantha from Ms. Smarty Pants.

After looking through her TPT shop, I was instantly drawn to her Math Madness pack.

This pack is meant to accompany calendar math and is an amazing resource! The first thing I noticed about this pack was the size...its huge! 128 pages huge! Imagine my giddiness :)

Math Madness covers CC standards for both first and second grade. It covers the concepts:

*date
*money
*place value
*even and odd numbers
*rounding
*fractions
*number patterns
*in and out boxes {addition & subtraction}
*time
*addition
*subtraction
*estimation
*measurement
*part-part whole
*fact families
*patterns on a hundreds chart
*patterns on a 120 chart
*inequalities
*number sense
*extending patterns

Whew!

I love how there are tons of options to choose from and everything is super colorful!

The pack also includes student response sheets that they can complete independently. There are so many different student response sheets that make it super easy to differentiate for your students' ability levels! And by so many, I mean 44!!!

Obviously, these are just a few examples of the many different options Samantha has included in this pack.

I so wish I had this at the beginning of the year! How awesome would it be to have your students get into this habit from day 1??? Even though we are already over halfway through our year, I still plan on implementing several of these activities with our calendar time.

Do you want to have this fabulous resource for your classroom?

Well, you're in luck! Samanatha and I have teamed up to give away our Magical Swap products to one lucky winner! What was my product, you ask? Well, guess you will have to hop on over to Ms. Smarty Pants to find out!

Oh, and I am also having a flash sale in my TPT store for 1 day only! Click here to start shopping!

Five for Friday!

Hey yall! TGIF, am I right???

I don't know about you, but this was a loooonggg, crazy week! I feel like I was run over by a truck...and then backed up and run over again. Ugh!

So how about a linky party tonight!

fiveforfriday

{1} We had a lockdown drill today. I got to sit with 19 kiddos in our bathroom...well, the hallway in between the girls and boys bathroom. For 30 minutes. With 19 kiddos. For 30 minutes. While they were snickering giggling making obscene noises absolutely quiet. With 19 kiddos. And did I mention it was for 30 minutes???

Not my idea of a good time :(

Note: these are NOT my actual students...because we were in a bathroom....for 30 minutes.

{2} Our school is also locking down our copies...and our printers. Meaning, we cannot make copies unless they are approved beforehand with a reasoning of why we need them and an explanation of where they came from. Also, we are no longer allowed to print anything from our personal printers.

Ummm......seriously???????????????????

Does anyone else have such crazy restrictions? I felt like this today...

{3} Even though the temperature was amazing today, we didn't get a chance to go outside because it was raining earlier in the morning and the playground was completely soaking wet.

So instead we had Rainy Day Recess. Does anyone else do Rainy Day Recess??? I seriously heart it!

{4} The hubs and I stopped by Joanns tonight and I found this {for 40% off I might add!}.

So cute, right??? I can't wait to use it for Valentine's Day! I may even keep it on my desk after VDay, for heart notes and such :)

{5} You know you're a teacher when you spend a Friday night grading papers...

Happy weekend, friends!!!

Persuade Me!

Hey yall!

I hope everyone is back into the swing of things...or getting there at least!

Today was a first for me...I had a runner!

Let me explain.

One of my littles has an extreme a slight truth problem. So when she got in trouble again today for not being honest with me, I had had enough. I sent her next door to another teacher's room so I could get some space she could think about her actions. Well, apparently, she wasn't having that.

So instead of walking 15 feet to the classroom next door, she took off running. Down the hall and straight out the front door! Thankfully, I was quick enough to send someone after her. Turns out, when she ran out the front door, she had a trail of educators behind her, including the principal!

They finally caught up to her, but she had already made it almost halfway home! Now, she does live just a block or two over, but still! I was so thankful they caught her, though!

Has that ever happened to anyone else???

So this week we are starting our unit on persuasive writing. We started by reading "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman Orloff.

If you're not familiar with this story, its about a little boy named Alex that really wants his friend's iguana when he moves away. Alex writes letters to his mom trying to persuade her to let him have the iguana. Alex's mom in turn writes letters to him telling him why he can't have the iguana.

I'll let you guess what happens in the end :)

Well, Alex definitely made some good arguments! After reading the book, I asked my students to make a list of the different reasons Alex gave his mom to persuade her to let him have the iguana. Then my students had to choose 1 reason and illustrate it.

They turned out so stinking cute!!!

"I will buy his food with my allowance."

"I will keep his cage clean."

"Iguanas are very small and quiet."

"Iguanas are very cute!"
I told my littles that the first grade teachers were discussing where to take our next field trip. I asked the students where they would like to go and why. I told them that they had to persuade me on where to take our field trip.

The kiddos each had to write me a persuasive letter telling me where we should take our next field trip and why.

More cuteness!!!

"Dear Mrs. Lemacks, Can we go to Chucky Chese? They have a Jurassic Park game.
You can eat pizza and you can get a gift."

"Dear Mrs. Lemacks, Can we go to the fair? Because it has roller coasters, cotton candy, and swings."

"Dear Mrs. Lemacks, I think we should go to a basketball game because I want to see super stars.
I like to see people dunk."

"Dear Mrs. Lemacks, I want to go to Japan because there's Japanese food. There's rooms. And you can sing songs."
I'm pretty sure the sweet girl in that last letter was talking about a Japanese restuarant that has karaoke! Notice the building that just says "Japan" on it...ha!

And do you see me in the picture? With my mouth open wide saying "Class, class!" and they are all saying "Yes, yes!" Haha!

Love that whole brain teaching!

My littles are off to a great start...I know we are totally gonna rock this unit!

Happy *almost* humpday, friends!
