Hurray, Hurray...Its the 100th Day!

Hey yall! Happy Monday!

Today was our 100th day of school! It was a super fun, yet busy day.

The first thing my kiddos saw this morning was this...

Then I gave each of my littles a special 100th Day of School pencil!

We had asked our students to dress like they were 100 years old. Some of them were really tripping me out! My teamies and I dressed up, too :)

Is that not the best ever???

We had too much fun planned for our littles today, so we decided to rotate classes throughout the morning. They went to each of the four 1st grade classes and completed a different activity at each class.

In my class, we made a special 100th day snack to have later in the afternoon.

In another class, they made crowns and decorated them with 100 things.

In the third class, they completed the 100th Day Olympics and earned specials medals.

In the last class, they wrote what they would be like at 100 and made 100-year-olds.

"When I am 100, I will play dominoes and work. I will play cards."

"When I am 100, I will be in bed. I will be a Mrs. I will watch TV."

"When I am 100, I will have a good day."

"When I am 100, I'm going to have a broken leg and I'm going to have glasses."

After lunch, we tried to read 100 books while we ate our snack. I told each kiddo they would only need to read 6 books each to reach our goal. I have never seem them so motivated to read!!!

They loved adding each book they read to our tally chart!

It was such a fun day and went by sooo fast because we were super busy. Love those kind of days :)

Now, this 100 year old is BEAT! Night yall!

Rainbow Facts

Hey yall!

I can't believe tomorrow is Friday....3 day weeks are the best! :)

I have been SUPER productive this week {most definitely because of the short week} and have been trying to get ahead on my lesson plans & copies. The great copy debacle is still going on at my school, so I've been taking trips to my graduate school to make copies there. We have a $25 copy account at the school, but if I keep having to make these trips, that will be gone in just a few weeks!

So I have been trying to get around having to make a ton of copies. Some things are easier than others, like math. We do a lot of hands on math activities, so I don't really have too many problems with copies there.

Where I have been running into an issue is with my centers. Even though all of my centers are interactive and hands on, I still like to keep my kiddos accountable. In the past, I did this by having them complete a recording sheet at each center, but now....

What do I do??? I've tried having them just record their answers in their reading notebooks, but its not realistic for me to check. I've tried making them accountable to each other, and having them check each other's work but that doesn't always work out for the best either.

Any ideas???

Okay moving on...

My littles have been working on addition, and this week we have been concentrating on compliments of 10. Well, I was already planning on introducing this activity from Ms. Van Orman over at The Sharpened Pencil, but I wanted to take it one step further.

I knew that I had a rainbow craftivity that I purchased last year from the creative Teri over at A Cupcake for the Teacher. Why not use those to make our rainbows? Perfect!

AND THEN!!!!

Cupcake posted about how she had introduced the same concept to her kiddos, and even had a freebie to go along with it! I mean, could the timing have been anymore perfect??? I am pretty sure I squealed with delight :)

We started by making a little anchor chart.

Then they made their own rainbows and wrote the compliments of 10.

They did soooo good with this! As an extension, we started talking about subtracting from 10 and they were on it! Talk about proud teacher moment :)

We are going to use Teri's freebie tomorrow as a check-up. Um seriously, what would I do without all these amazing teacher bloggers out there to make my life easier???

This girl is sick at home. I am actually feeling a little bit better than yesterday, but not quite up to being surrounded by 18 germy kiddos all day.

And yes, I said 18...not 20. I lost TWO kiddos in the last two weeks! And even though smaller classes are always nice, I am really going to miss those sweeties :(

You know what else I'm going to miss???
